What are some good ways to use Resonance Device?
Generation Force marks the beginning of a new era of
Dueling, one where Xyz Monsters give every Deck a boost and Duels are
more exciting than ever before. We’ve got plenty of Xyz Monsters to
choose from now, and plenty of cards to help us Summon these new
monsters as well. Resonance Device is a card that helps
you Xyz Summon, but it can also help you Synchro Summon too, and its
useful in some pretty good Decks. Check it out!
Resonance Device is a Spell Card that alters the
Levels of monsters you control. First off you choose 2 face-up monsters
you control that have the same Type and Attribute, then you get to
change the Level of one of these monsters to match the other one for the
rest of the turn. This makes Xyz Summoning a whole lot easier but also
lets certain decks Synchro Summon monsters that they had trouble playing
before!
Resonance Device works best in Decks with several
monsters that share Types and Attributes. Blackwings would be a great
example, since the majority of them are DARK Winged Beast-Type monsters.
A simple combo involving Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North and a Level 4 Blackwing monster it can Summon for free now becomes a lot more powerful with Resonance Device. With just Blizzard on its own you’re only option is to Synchro Summon a Level 6 monster, like Orient Dragon or Blackwing Armed Wing. Throw Resonance Device into the mix though and you can Summon all sorts of monsters!
If you select the 2 Blackwing monsters and change Blizzard’s Level to 4, you can either Synchro Summon a Level 8 monster (Stardust Dragon, Scrap Dragon etc.) or use your 2 monsters to Xyz Summon a Rank 4 monster, like Steelswarm Roach or Number 39: Utopia! Blackwings have easy access to a Level 5 monster too (Blackwing – Sirocco the Dawn) and Resonance Device can turn your other Blackwings into Level 5 monsters to let you Summon Tiras, Keeper of Genesis and Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon!
Agents are another Deck that can make good use of Resonance Device,
since many of their cards are LIGHT Fairy-Types. While several of these
are Level 4 and the Deck can Xyz Summon Rank 4 monsters easily, 3 of
the Deck’s main cards are of a different Level. The Agent of Creation – Venus is a Level 3 monster, and the Mystical Shine Balls it can Summon are Level 2, as is the Deck’s Tuner The Agent of Mystery – Earth. Just like with Blackwings, you can combine Resonance Device,
Earth and your various non-Tuner monsters to Synchro Summon Level 8
monsters with ease, which the Deck can rarely do on its own.
Agent Decks banish a lot of cards thanks to Master Hyperion, Gold Sarcophagus, and Cards from the Sky, and Resonance Device can help you here too. First you Summon The Agent of Creation – Venus and Special Summon Mystical Shine Ball with its effect. Next you play Resonance Device and change the level of the Shine Ball to 3, and Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon! Leviair’s effect lets you detach an Xyz Material to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower banished monster back to your field!
Resonance Device can also fit into other Decks too, like Machina, Cloudians and Gradius-themed
Decks. You can also try it out in Decks that only share a Type (like
Six Samurai) or an Attribute (like Lightsworn) as some of these Decks
have monsters that will share both Type and Attribute. Finally, if you
have DARK Spellcasters, you can combine it with Gagaga Magician you can Xyz Summon whatever monster you like!
