Fighting the Metagame: Infernity

With slight less than a month to the Singapore’s Yu-Gi-Oh! World
Championship Qualifier 2010, Duelist Codex will be starting on a new
series of posts: Fighting the Metagame; a new column focused on the
various powerhouse decks in the current metagame. Do note that Singapore
will be utilizing the following Restriction List released by Konami Asia, hence only cards available will be covered in the discussion.

The release of The Shinning Darkness introduced additional cards to
the Infernity theme, turning it into a top-tier deck. By utilizing
Infernity Archfiend’s effect to fetch Infernity Launcher, Infernity is
able swarm the field with Synchro Monsters, creating a possibility to
end the duel at that moment.

Playing Infernity
The basics of Infernity is to have Infernity Archfiend, Infernity
Necromancer and either Infernity Beetle or Infernity Avenger in the
graveyard, through the aid of Dark Grepher and Infernity Inferno.
Following would be to go handless in order to have Infernity
Necromancer, Infernity Mirage or Infernity Launcher revive Infernity
Archfiend, which would fetch Infernity Launcher. Tune Infernity
Archfiend with Infernity Beetle for some Synchro Monster. Play and
activate Infernity Launcher, reviving Infernity Archfiend and Infernity
Necromancer or Infernity Beetle, fetching Infernity Launcher. Rinse and

Essentially Infernity is all about setting up the combo, and waiting
for the correct timing, before bursting down the opponent. With the lack
of Mist Worm or Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, the Asian format
Infernity would have go for level 5-8 monsters that would do the kill

Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon is easily ATK 3000.
Using the first Splendid Rose as a synchro material for a level 8
Synchro Monsters would allow the second Splendid Rose to attack for a
total of 3300 damage.
Scrap Dragon is crucial for clearing your opponent’s monster, as well as to send your own Infernity Archfiend to the graveyard.

Playing against Infernity
As the handless combo requires Infernity monsters in the graveyard,
removing them with D.D. Crow and Crevice Into the Different Dimension is
a good way to stop the combo.
Royal Oppression is also able to stop all the special summoning of Infernity monsters.
Mystical Space Typhoon and Dust Tornado are able to destroy Infernity
Launcher when it is being played, before the Infernity player can even
activate either effect.

Last but not least, after the duel where the Infernity player has
performed his/her handless combo and brought your life point down to
zero, before conceding the match, request to have a look at his/her set
spell/trap cards. Ensure that there is no cheating involved (i.e.
setting a monsters in the spell/trap zone).
