Team Europe
Here they are, the Top 4 Duelists of this weekend!
They will be representing Europe at the World Championship this summer
in Tokyo, so take a closer look!
Joshua Schmidt will represent Germany at the World Championship!
Age: 16
Hometown: Reiskirchen (near Gießen, Germany)
Deck you played this weekend: Wind-Up
What’s been your toughest match this weekend? The Top 16 match. I had to play another Wind-Up player, the game went to time and it was really, really close!
What are you looking forward to the most at the World Championship? It’s a huge honor to be representing Europe at Worlds! I’m really looking forward to it!
What’s your favorite Deck of all time? While I didn’t
actively play at the time, I tried the Goat Control Deck and I really
enjoyed all the card interactions and playing in this classic format
that all of the veterans are always talking about!
Angel Matas is holding the flag high for Spain!
Age: 19
Hometown: Barcelona
Deck you played this weekend: Inzektor
What’s been your toughest match this weekend? I got
paired against a friend in Round 6 and we both knew the contents of our
Decks. I thought about simply giving him the win so he could continue
his winning streak, but I eventually played the match and ended up in
the Top 4.
What are you looking forward to the most at the World Championship?
I really want to experience the Japanese culture first-hand! I really
like Anime and Manga and I heard their cities are really impressive. I
can’t wait to see them!
What’s your favorite Deck of all time? X-Saber! I won my country’s National Championship with it!
I told you not to underestimate the Greeks. Michail Paraschos showed us again why!
Age: 18
Hometown: Thessaloniki
Deck you played this weekend: Chaos Dragon
What’s been your toughest match this weekend? Oh,
that’s a tough question. I played a Dino Rabbit player and the game went
back and forth. It was so intense, I can’t even remember most of the
details. It happened during one of the Swiss rounds yesterday!
What are you looking forward to the most at the World Championship? I really just want to see Japan! I love Anime and look forward to seeing some in the country it originated from.
What’s your favorite Deck of all time? I can’t decide between the French Twilight Deck and the X-Saber Deck with Rescue Cat.
French Twilight had so many boss monsters, it was lots of fun summoning
them all to the field one after another and starting to lay the
beatdown on opponents! X-Saber had Rescue Cat and it was one of the best cards to draw into in literally any stage of the game.
Stefano Memoli has been to Worlds before, maybe he can win it this time?!
Age: 25
Hometown: Milan, Italy
Deck you played this weekend: Wind-Up
What’s been your toughest match this weekend? My Top 16 Match. I played a friend and I had Wind-Up Magician and Wind-Up Shark
and he had next to nothing. I did not want to continue playing as I
didn’t want to kick him out of the tournament. We were both close to
tears. I think from then on, it can only get better!
What are you looking forward to the most at the World Championship?
I have a lot of friends that will help me prepare for the tournament.
This will definitely be lots of fun, but I’m afraid the Japanese girls
might turn out to be a litte distracting.
What’s your favorite Deck of all time? I played an Anti
Meta Deck in 2010 and it helped me to make it all the way to the Semi
Finals of the European Championship 2010, so I could go to Worlds thanks
to it!
