Psylocke
After testing for almost a week with the new Psychic monsters from
Extreme Victory, I had came up with a decent deck that was rather
enjoyable (not so much for my opponent). The deck aims to summon T.G.
Halberd Cannon, Naturia Beast and set Royal Decree all on the first
turn.
T.G. Harberd Cannon will lock down one of his summon.
Naturia Beast will lock down his Spells.
Royal Decree will lock down his Traps.
With this holy trinity on the field, there’s nothing my opponent
could do. Hence the name of the deck – Psylocke; a word play on “Psychic
Lockdown”, and a tribute to the sexy mutant from Marvel Comics.
Note that the decklist is based on the March 2011 – September 2011 Ban/Restriction list.

Setting Up
The combo in this deck depends solely on Mind Master to set up.
The easiest method to set up would be having Mind Master, another Psychic monster and Brain Research Lab.
The next best method would be with One for One or Emergency Teleport and
another Psychic monster. Despite not having Brain Research Lab, you
will still be able to perform the full combo, by paying a total of up to
4800 LP for Mind Master’s effect. However, if you drew into any
Taciturn Psychic Priest along the way, you would have to hope for a Pot
of Avarice to recycle the Taciturn Psychic Priests.
The last method would be using Genetic Woman, Gold Sarcophagus and Brain
Research Lab. Activate Gold Sarcophagus to remove Mind Master, activate
Brain Research Lab and summon Genetic Woman. Activate Genetic Woman’s
effect to retrieve Mind Master and summon Mind Master through Brain
Research Lab’s additional summon effect. Having Gold Sarcophagus
unrestricted from two to unlimited was rather timely.
By playing Reinforced Human Psychic Borg, I could perform the simple
combo with 2 more Genetic Woman to add 2 Psychic monster cards to my
hand, allowing me to discard them later for Taciturn Psychic Priest’s
effect. Of course, Brain Research Lab is required for this; there is
simply not enough LP to perform the combo without it.
Performing the Lock
The whole combo to get T.G. Harberd Cannon, Naturia Beast and Royal
Decree is rather lengthy. I had made the steps into a nice image below,
hopefully it is simple enough to understand. (The image is large, give
it some time to load)
After the Lock
Ideally after the lock, you would be able to summon a Brionac to go for
the win. If you have drew into Psy Girl with Genetic Woman/Reinforced
Human Psychic Borg or Psychic Commander with Psychic Witch of
Stillness/Taciturn Psychic Priest, you simply have to summon them with
Brain Research Lab and perform the synchro summon.
Other Combos
The chances of drawing into the combo is still rather low, it’s very
likely that you will not be able to lockdown your opponent on the first
turn. However, the chances of performing it on the second and third
turns are significantly higher. Since you would have a battle phase, you
can try to perform an OTK. Hopefully you have activated a Giant Trunade
or have an active Royal Decree before performing the combo. Continue
until Step 9, where you fetch Psychic Commander instead of Psy Girl.
Activate Taciturn Psychic Priest’s effect and remove a Psychic monster
with ATK more or equal to 800, instead of Doctor Cranium. Tune Psychic
Commander with Taciturn Psychic Priest into Brionac. You should have
enough cards to bounce his monsters and go for a direct attack.
100 (Mind Master) + 2400 (T.G. Librarian #1) + 2400 (T.G. Librarian #2) + 2300 (Brionac) = 7200
The last Psychic monster should finish up the remaining 800 LP.
If you still have a Doctor Cranium in your deck, you can continue
using Mind Master’s effect to fetch him, and continue to summon Formula
Synchron to draw 3 cards. You might want to go for Stardust Dragon or
Black-Winged Dragon since you do not have Naturia Beast to protect your
Brain Research Lab. Black-Winged Dragon will absorb damage that Brain
Research Lab would deal to you.
Another combo would be to Tune Mind Master with T.G. Librarian #1 for
Tempest Magician, and Psy Girl with T.G. Librarian #2 for Arcanite
Magician. Hopefully you have sufficient cards in hand to discard them to
Tempest Magician and load the Spell Counters on Arcanite Magician.
Clear any monsters with Arcanite Magician’s effect, direct attack with
both and burn your opponent with Tempest Magician’s effect. That should
seal the deal.
Tournament Result
I had tried this deck in a casual tournament yesterday and performed
mediocre with it. The tournament doesn’t allow any side-decking.
Mini-Tournament @ CardMaster, 23rd Feb 2011
Number of Participants: 18
Match 1: Debris Dandy (Kevin) – XOX
Match 2: Blackwing (Eric) – OO
Match 3: Blackwing (Vishal) – XX
Match 4: Blackwing – OXO
Final standing: 9th
Weakness
The tournament allowed me to noticed a few weakness about the deck.
Debris Dandy is a terrible match-up due to the fact that they play
Effect Veiler. Maybe siding the new Counter Trap from Extreme Victory,
Revelation, might help against the match-up.
Blackwing is still a difficult fight, if they go for an early
Trishula or if Spirit Reaper managed to force a discard. In addition to
accumulating the 2-3 cards for the combo, an extra 2-3 cards is required
for discarding to Taciturn Psychic Priest’s effect. I often find myself
with the combo but not having enough cards to keep the combo running.
Otherwise, Royal Decree wins the game for me.
Having Brain Research Lab (with 8 or more Psychic Counters) blown
away by Mystical Space Typhoon is an instant game over if you have yet
to summon Naturia Beast. I did considered playing Rainbow Life or even
Hanewata, but as I mentioned earlier, having enough cards to perform the
combo is still a problem.
Final Words
The built above was slowed down in an attempt to make the deck
competitive by increasing the amount of removals. For those courageous
souls out there, you can replace the Book of Moon, Dark Hole, Mirror
Force and Torrential Tribute for 3 Upstart Golbin and 1 Terraforming.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you about Thunder King Rai-Oh and Archlord
Kristya.
Props to Bahamut84 from DuelingDays, t3chy as well as d3stin3d (Mango) for inspirations, deck testing and giving/lending me some cards for the deck.
If you have read this long article, thank you for having the
patience. I hope you would enjoy playing this deck as much as I had
enjoyed it. Too bad for your opponent though. Let me know if you found
any crucial modifications for the deck or played in any tournaments with
this deck as a comment below.
